New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was already having a bad start to 2021, given recent revelations from the New York Attorney General that raised questions about his idiotic strategy of putting COVID-19 patients back in nursing homes.
According to the Washington Examiner, the situation took another sharp turn on Thursday, after one of Cuomo’s aides, Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa, went on record during a conference call with New York Democratic leaders admitting that the governor’s office purposely hid the actual number of deaths that occurred in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Basically, we froze,” DeRosa told those included in the phone call. She went on to say it was at the same time that former President Donald Trump began threatening to get the Department of Justice involved over Cuomo’s nursing home death controversy.
“Because then, we were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation,” DeRosa added. “That played a very large role into this.”
Wow. Just wow.

At the crux of this bombshell revelation, besides the fact that they purposely hid critical information on the actual death toll, is that 9,000 patients recovering from COVID-19 patients were sent to nursing homes around the state, which is a number 40 percent higher than what was previously reported.
Even more flabergasting is the fact that DeRosa, on the two-hour phone conference, apologized to the Democrats on the call for putting them in less-than-ideal political positions as they were forced to defend Cuomo on the national stage without having the proper information.
“So, we do apologize,” she said. “I do understand the position that you were put in. I know that it is not fair. It was not our intention to put you in that political position with the Republicans.”
Understandably, a number of Democrats on the call essentially rejected the apology, presumably stunned at what they were hearing for the first time since the controversy erupted last year.
“I don’t have enough time today to explain all the reasons why I don’t give that any credit at all,” said Assembly Health Committee Chairman Richard Gottfried.
Democratic Assemblyman Ron Kim had his own take on what he’d just heard DeRosa admit, suggesting it felt like they purposely hid evidence to stay out of deep water with Trump’s DOJ… which is exactly what it sounds like took place.
This story is still developing, as it broke on Thursday afternoon. Stay tuned for what will undoubtedly be a whirlwind of fallout.
