When scandals hit a high-profile member of a political party, it’s always fascinating to see which members of that party have the fortitude to call that person out and which ones are absolute cowards and scared of their own shadow.
That exact scenario is playing out right now with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has been accused of bullying, sexual harassment and at least one count of sexual assault — very serious allegations by any measure, let alone the fact that seven women have made them, so far.
The embattled governor is innocent until proven guilty, but in this case there are so many allegations and so many distractions, that while many of his fellow Democrats believe he deserves a fair shot at due process, they also believe that the scandal is simply too overshadowing and that it will affect the effectiveness of his gubernatorial duties, which has prompted a long list of heavy-hitting Democrats to call for his resignation.
Those politicians include Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Reps. Jerry Nadler and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and too many more to list here. They all had the courage to say that it’s time for Cuomo to step down, plain and simple.
But that list is missing one key individual: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

According to The Hill, Pelosi was asked again this week whether she thinks Cuomo should tender his resignation. Instead of having the fortitude to answer directly and issue a call for his resignation — which would be especially powerful given her gender and position — she instead offered a canned response about “zero-tolerance” policies.
“We have zero-tolerance for the behavior that is alleged against the governor, and again, I think he is a supporter of zero-tolerance in terms of sexual harassment,” Pelosi said.
“So, it would follow that if you have zero-tolerance, that would be a decision that we hope the governor would make,” she added.
Wow. Really?
Do you think NY Gov Andrew Cuomo will resign?
First of all, Cuomo is not simply going to wake up one morning this week and feel like he violated a “zero-tolerance” policy, call a press conference and announce his resignation.
Secondly, she’s already been provided political “cover” from other members of the party who apparently have mountains-worth more political courage than she does.
But I guess we shouldn’t be surprised, as Speaker Pelosi over the weekend suggested that Cuomo should “look into his heart” and ask himself whether he can effectively continue to govern or not.
In other words, she’s hoping that the one politician in American who can match ego size with former President Donald Trump (and that’s not a dig) will suddenly admit defeat and throw in the towel.
Believe me, it’s not going to happen and for her to even suggest that it’s a possibility is beyond intellectually dishonest.
She still has time to make this right, but the clock is ticking.
