Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger shot himself in the foot, politically, in the wake of the Capitol riots, as he was the first Republican to turn on the president and accuse him of somehow being responsible for “inciting” the tragic events that occurred on January 6.
According to the Washington Examiner, Kinzinger appears to be doubling down on his anti-Trump stance, as it was announced on Sunday that he launched an anti-Trump PAC that will assist Republican candidates who have broken ranks with Trump — and by extension, the former president’s tens of millions of supporters.
Tripling down on his anti-Trump and anti-Trump Republican stance, during the announcement of his new political action committee, he fired off serious accusations against a number of pro-Trump colleagues in the lower chamber, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and at Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy for not doing enough to tone down Greene’s very vocal support for the former president.
Kinzinger fired shots at McCarthy for initially claiming that Trump “bears responsibility” for the Capitol riots only to seemingly reverse his position weeks later after McCarthy flew to Florida to have a meeting with the former president, in which they agreed to focus on helping Republicans win in 2022.
“That’s a heck of a move in about three weeks. It’s hard to square that circle,” Kinzinger said, before accusing McCarthy and Rep. Jim Jordan, another staunch Trump defender, “political terrorists.”

“The former president is desperate to continue to look like he’s leading the party. And the problem is until we push back and say, you know, this is not a Trump-first party, this is a country-first party,” Kinzinger said during an MSNBC interview on Sunday. “In some cases, you may support Donald Trump in that effort. But in my case, I believe that that’s a whole new movement. Until we all kind of stand up and say that, we are going to kind of be chasing our tail here in this situation.”
Of course, Kinzinger was one of the 10 proud Republican lawmakers who voted in favor of impeaching Trump, along with Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, who has already taken a beating from Trump supporters online and from many of her pro-Trump colleagues.
Given the backlash and the strong vows from Trump’s millions of supporters that lawmakers like Kinzinger and Cheney don’t stand a chance at ever receiving their vote again, it’s truly amazing to watch them continue to bet against Donald Trump, as if millions of pro-Trump voters will wake up one day and suddenly change sides?
Only time will tell, but I have a feeling that as the 2022 midterms near, there will be quite a few Republicans, like Kinzinger and Cheney, who will deploy the biggest apology tour ever if they want even a remote chance of beating their opponents with the help of Trump’s supporters.
