We obviously know what happened on January 6 at the Capitol. It was tragic, deadly and a stain on American history.
But as politicians usually do, their knee-jerk reaction was to call in tens of thousands of National Guard troops to be temporarily stationed in the nation’s capital, citing the need for extra security for President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
Ok, we can give them that. Better safe than sorry. But remember in the days leading up to the inauguration, the FBI and other agencies issued numerous bulletins about an “armed resistance” and other credible threats that would not only impact the inauguration, but they also warned of imminent violence in literally every state capital?
None of it came to fruition, which is obviously a good thing, but literally nothing happened. As a matter of fact, the only violence on Jan. 20 happened in Portland and Seattle, where groups of Antifa thugs broke a few windows and tossed a few bricks.
So, any logical person should feel sane in raising the question: Why in the world do we still have National Guard troops stationed in Washington D.C.? There is no threat and there haven’t been any incidents that would warrant anything more than a local police response, at best.
According to Newsmax, a group of Republicans are now demanding to know why, exactly, it is that we still have troops in D.C. to this day. These National Guard heroes are just like you and I — they have families, jobs and responsibilities to attend to, but thanks to people like Speaker Nancy Pelosi, they’re tied down in D.C. with no real justification for their presence.
“Myself [and others] have asked for a briefing as to why we need these troops here,” Rep. Lisa McClain said recent on Fox News. “We’ve received zero response.”
“Just tell me why,” she pleaded. “At the end of the day, just explain to us why we have the National Guard troops … more than [U.S. military troops] in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.”
She went on to reveal that the government has requested another 1000 troops from her home state of Michigan, but are failing to tell her exactly why they’re needed. She argues that they could be much better utilized back home with regard to COVID-19 vaccine distribution efforts.
Do you think there is something strange in Dems wanting such a huge National Guard presence in Washington DC?
McClain is one of many Republican lawmakers who have raised similar questions, demanding to know exactly what’s going on with this charade.
The latest reports indicated that National Guard troops — possibly up to 7,000 — will be stationed in D.C. possibly until the fall of 2021, which again is completely ridiculous and unnecessary.
Hopefully, Republican lawmakers continue to press Pelosi and other congressional leaders on the issue, because either something else is going on entirely that we’re not being made aware of, or this is just a continuation of Democrats flexing their power at the expense of disrupting these troops’ lives for no reason.
