Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s recent trip to Cancun, Mexico during the historic winter storm that plagued his home state last week quickly had the mainstream media in total frenzy mode.
According to The Hill, Cruz, who admitted that his trip wasn’t the best look as far as optics are concerned, had a little fun with the pearl-clutching, liberal mainstream media who spent countless hours covering the non-story for the past several days.
“I will say, to venture into practicing medicine, that I actually want to diagnose the media. The media is suffering from acute Trump withdrawal, where for four years every day, they could foam at the mouth and be obsessed with Donald Trump, and now that he has receded from their day-to-day storyline, they don’t know what to do with themselves,” Cruz said while speaking with radio host Dana Loesch this week.
“Donald Trump broke the media, and so they don’t want to do that,” Cruz added. “They just want to engage in political attacks.”
As usual, the Republican senator is exactly right. It was predicted by many in the business that once former President Donald Trump left office, most of the mainstream media would be distraught without the ability to continually bash the former president and his policies 24/7.
Forget the Hunter Biden scandal, the Gov. Andrew Cuomo nursing home scandal or similar, serious news stories. “TED CRUZ WENT TO CANCUN!” is the real angle, apparently.
Cruz echoed his prognosis of the MSM during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity this week, explaining that the media has no idea what to do now that Trump isn’t available to slam every day.
“I think the media is suffering from Trump withdrawal, where they’ve attacked Trump every day for four years,” Cruz told Hannity. “They don’t know what to do, so they obsessed over my taking my girls to the beach.”
At the crux of the Cruz “controversy,” was the fact that he was spotted at a Houston airport last week very clearly headed south to the popular vacation hotspot. Of course, that was at the same time that millions of Texas were facing power outages, freezing cold temperatures and a lack of food and water.
Somehow, according to the mainstream, anti-Trump media, if Cruz stayed in Texas during that time, none of that would have happened. I guess. Or at least that’s what they want you to believe.
Cruz later said that he was merely chaperoning his girls on the beach trip and was set to return the following day. Either way, it’s an absolute nothing-burger, but it seems as if “acute Trump withdrawal” is very real and I can assure you that you haven’t seen the last of it.
