The Capitol riot on January 6th gave Democrats and Republicans alike a storyline to spin for their own advantage. Republicans that always hated President Trump for his America first policies used it to blame the President for inciting violence, but really it was a chance for them to scream “orange man bad” when they thought their constituents would finally agree.
One of those Republicans was a newly elected Representative from South Carolina named Nancy Mace. She used President Trump’s pull in her southern state to get America First South Carolinians to get out and vote for her, but she cut and run at the first sign of trouble. She, like many Republicans, go to Washington to represent us and end up representing themselves.
With that bit of knowledge, Rep. Mace called Rep. AOC out in a tweet for lying about her experience hiding from the rioters on January 6th.
AOC has spent the weeks after the Capitol riot painting a story that she feared for her life as “angry insurrectionists” stormed the halls of the Capitol. But According to Rep. Nancy Mace, who has an office “two doors down,” AOC wasn’t in the Capitol building during the riot, but rather, Rep. AOC was sheltering in her office that is in a completely different building.
Rep. Mace said, “@AOC made clear she didn’t know who was at her door. Breathless attempts by media to fan fictitious news flames are dangerous. My office is 2 doors down. Insurrectionists never stormed our hallway. Egregious doesn’t even begin to cover it. Is there nothing MSM won’t politicize?”

In the tweet, Rep. Mace shared a graphic that showed a Newsweek article where AOC described her riot experience. The Representative claimed that at one point, rioters came through her hallway and actually entered her office, forcing her to run into her bathroom to shelter.
AOC said that her legislative director Geraldo Bonilla-Chavez instructed her to “hide, hide, run and hide.” The representative said, “and so I run back into my office; I slam my door. There’s another kind of like a back area to my office, and I open it, and there’s a closet and a bathroom. And I jump into my bathroom.”
AOC admits to being in her office at the time of the riots, which means she is lying about being told to “run and hide.” It also means that she is lying about having to shelter in her bathroom.
AOC was never in any real danger while she was sheltering in her office, which makes her accusation that Sen. Cruz and other Republicans were attempting to murder her by objecting to the electoral college vote a complete lie.
Last week Rep. Chip Roy set out to hold AOC accountable for her inflammatory statements urging Speaker Pelosi in a letter to take action against Rep. AOC or the Republicans would be forced to take harsher steps. The letter received the support of 13 other Republicans.
Because it is AOC, Nancy Pelosi did nothing to chastise the Representative for her false statements, which gave AOC the impression it was time to double down. AOC hit back at Rep. Roy’s criticism of her remarks about Sen. Cruz and other Republicans in an Instagram video accusing him of using a sexual abuser’s tactics.
In her video, she said, “My favorite, this past week Ted Cruz and now representatives Chip Roy, and now oh, by the way, some of the other representatives who actually encouraged people to threaten members of Congress or tweeted out the location of the Speaker are now telling me to apologize for saying and speaking truth to what happened. These are the tactics of abusers.” She continued, “I’m a survivor of sexual assault. … When we go through trauma, trauma compounds on each other.”
But her story is fake, and she didn’t actually experience any direct trauma on the day of the Capitol riot.
The Daily Wire reports that Rep. Chip Roy responded to AOC’s “sexual abuser” claims, saying,” I was saddened to learn about the trauma that my colleague, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, described in recent days regarding sexual assault.” He added that he “hopes that she has received justice and experiences peace in the matter.”
But he said, “as to her claims about my position, I will not be swayed from my beliefs about right and wrong – regarding this or anything else. Her comparison of my defense of colleagues to her circumstances was again inappropriate, but I am not going to participate in discussing her personal experiences as a political matter.”
He continued saying that “it does not change the fact that her allegation against Sen. Cruz was completely unacceptable for a Member of Congress to make against another member for engaging in free speech and debate about what our Constitution says about electors.”
He said her accusations would not make him change his position that Rep. AOC “should apologize for and retract those remarks.” He finished by saying that “Members of this body have a duty to work to mend the tattered fabric to our Republic, stop this heightened rhetoric, stop the social media sniping, and move forward to actually do the work the American people sent us here to do.”
