For the last 7+ hours, I’ve been stuck in my car, not moving, in a total shutdown of I-95 northbound about 30 miles south of DC. (1)

There’s nothing to do but tweet at this point, so why not a thread.

The interstate is absolutely littered with disabled vehicles. Not just cars. Semis, everything. Nobody can move. People are running out of gas or abandoning vehicles. (2)

People (myself included) are taking exercise breaks outside their cars, walking their dogs on the interstate.

I’ve been putting snow in his bowl and letting it melt into water. (3)

For a while, people tried to clear their stuck cars my shoveling with their feet. Most quickly gave up. But, then what? There is zero possibility for any tow truck to get to you right now in the thousands of cars backed up. (4)

Around the 5-hour mark, it felt like it shifted from really inconvenient to a little scary.

Folks started turning their cars off, conserving gas, while we wait. It’s 27 degrees outside.

There is no way for medical or emergency personnel to reach people stuck in this. (5)

About 3 hours ago a single police car made its way thru, and I saw one plow go by around then. Since then, not a single emergency vehicle has gone by northbound that I’ve seen.

Southbound, by the way, is totally shut down too. Have seen plows on that side tho. (6)

It’s 2am. Are we here for the night?

Should we try to hunker down, get warm and sleep?

Is that safe?

With the car on or off? (7)
